Diptyque ‘New York’
Score: 76.5%
Notes: cedarwood, vetiver, patchouli
In their words: The New York candle evokes the golden age of alluring speakeasies and the city's nightlife. Notes of cedar wood, vetiver and patchouli heightened by mysterious incense are a scented echo of these legendary and contemporary sights.
In our words: The New York City candle smells like an apartment you can't afford, more specifically a West Village full-floor gut reno belonging to a handsome, rich bachelor who didn't get the money for the downpayment from his parents. It's sensual and expensive and should definitely be burning in the apartment's study. It's distinctively masculine, but still perfect for the New York bad bitch.

Burning this feels like it could summon Christian Grey to your bedroom. The throw is incredible without being overwhelming. Instead of Diptyque's classic black-and-white-and-glass look, this features deep gold art deco details on frosted charcoal-y blue glass. Like we said, sexy.

Carcinogenic Wax: Diptyque candles are made of paraffin wax which creates the highly toxic benzene and toluene when burned — both known carcinogens and linked to asthma and lung cancer.
Availability: It's limited edition and often sold out.
Burn time: Could be longer for price.
